Now virtually defunct, Yiddish theater was once a radical imaginative force, as Joel Schechter reveals in Messiahs of 1933, which examines such artists as the Artef collective, Leo Fuchs, and Menasha Skulnik. Co-presented by the San Francisco State Department of Theatre Arts and the Bureau of Jewish Education Community Library, Schechter discusses his book at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay (1414 Walnut St., Berkeley) on Sunday, July 15. 7:30 p.m. JCCEastBay.org
