Joe Louis Walker All Star Band

When: Sat., Jan. 10, 8 & 10:30 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 11, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $25-$28

A longtime fixture on the blues scene, six-string wielding San Francisco native Joe Louis Walker has been plying his trade since the mid-'60s. One of the genre's best-kept secrets, Walker has nonetheless recorded with the likes of TajMahal, Bonnie Raitt, and B.B King, while undergoing a musical journey that found him delving into psychedelic rock and gospel before returning to his blues roots in the mid-'80s. Newly signed to Canadian-based Stony Plain Records, Walker's debut is the Duke Robillard-produced Witness to the Blues, a collection that includes a duet with Shemekia Copeland on the Peggy Scott and Jo Jo Benson nugget "Lover's Holiday." And while Copeland won't be around for this pair of homecoming dates, Tonight Show fixture Kevin Eubanks and Mike Finnigan will be picking up the slack at Biscuits & Blues (401 Mason St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Jan. 10 & Sunday, Jan. 11. 8 p.m., $25-$28.
