Re: “Back to Square One

My son worked at Scotts for a while and was afraid to walk back to his car late at night. He was twice followed. Also, the neighborhoods and businesses from 6th street on out to the port area are very undesirable (jail, police station, etc.) Also, the underground parking under Barnes & Noble is a little scarey too. People only want to GET OUT of Oakland when seeking a good time. Oakland's negative reputation is going to be hard to shake. Free boat trips with music, live entertainment, perhaps a small carnival, whatever - only the cleverest planner could make it all go. Perhaps the place should always be lighted up more at night, as at Christmastime. We used to go to TGI Fridays and the blacks were SO loud in the restaurant as if THEY owned the place AND were on a first-serve basis with the waiters; so we didn't go back. Such a beautiful place, the port of Oakland. I hope something works for the area.
