Re: “Josh Wolf Out of Jail; Disputed Video Publicly Available on His Blog

I think that the question here is two-fold. 1) Is this individual protecting a source? The answer is clearly no. He is not protecting people who came forward to reveal information that my be incriminating or otherwise harmful to them. So that relationship was never entered. In fact, it appears that he is protecting people that he caught in the act of comitting a crime. 2) The law has the right to subpoena video evidence in its effort to bring a potential criminal to justice. In fact, at such point, the individual possessing that video or information can not "do whatever they want with it." For example, can Barry bonds' accountant "do whatever he wants" with his client's tax return? Of course he can't because a grand jury has an interest in the information in its investigation of a drug dealing probe. Just imagine if Albert Maysles refused to provide the video of Meredith Hunter being stabbed to death at Altamont raceway in 1969. Maysles was much more of a legitimate journalist than this individual, as he had full press credentials to film the Rolling Stones perform at the event, and he had far more to worry about as the information he'd filmed held evidence that incriminated the most powerful gang in the country at the time, the Hells Angels. I'm sorry, this individual is nothing more than an opportunist, in my opinion, and its pretty apparant that is putting on this little act to get his name in the papers. That is the difference between bloggers and real journalists... one group will pull whatever stunt is neccesary to get their name in the papers, while the other's name is already there. When you step back and look at the circumstances here you'll realize that the only title applicible to this individual is that of an obstructor of justice.
