Thanks, Bob, for keeping on top of the developments in the counting for the mayor's race. Your blog has been the go-to source!

Re: “Oakland Home Is the Greenest in America

An embarrassment of riches: it looks like there is a couple of dueling "greenest houses in America," both in Rockridge. The Margarido House, on the other side of College Avenue, claims to be the first LEED-H Platinum certified home in Northern California and to have 118 LEED points (compared to 106.5 for the house in this article).

The Gottfried house does have the 179 GreenPoints rating, whereas the Margarido House is apparently awaiting its certification under GreenPoints.

Re: “Crime Drops in Oakland as Nacho Gets Burglarized

This notion of the Oakland police being "finally being up to full force" is very misleading. What "full force" means in this context is: finally we have as many officers as the city council has authorized funding for. (Prior to this we had authorized slots that were unoccupied due to retirements, injuries, and the difficulty of recruiting.)

What "full force" does NOT mean: the right number of officers to deal with Oakland's crime. Arguably we should have many more officers than the level the city council has authorized.

Only when we reach that higher level would it make sense to say our police department is at "full force."

Re: “Don't Recycle That Plastic

It looks like Oakland's curbside recycling has become more permissive. "New! Plastic Tubs Are In!" says the Oakland Public Works Department page under "What Can You Recycle in Your Gray Cart?"

"Plastic food and beverage containers (bottles and tubs) are now accepted in the Oakland residential recycling program. We invite you to include plastic containers like margarine tubs, yogurt cups, and deli containers for recycling, in addition to narrow-neck plastic bottles that have long been a part of Oakland recycling program.

Re: “Chamber Spends Load on Oakland Races

Bob, there's a typo: Nancy Nadel represents District 3, not District 1.

Re: “Oakland is Doomed! DOOMED!

Come again? Jesse just reads the newspaper? I can think of at least two recent stories ((a) the proposed sale of OUSD land and the associated story of how certain provisions in the state takeover got introduced and (b) the proposed condo-conversion ordinance) where Jesse did substantial original reporting that put to shame other major news outlets.
