Re: “BART Arrogance Kills Airport Connector

Your recent items on the Daily Planet's demise got it wrong. The Planet was hurt by the campaign of a group of East Bay Jews who successfully convinced local merchants that advertising in the Planet was bad for business because the publication consistently printed anti-Semitic content. There was no boycott. This was not about Israel (although some of the Planet’s incessant anti-Israel editorial was also anti-Semitic). This campaign was about hate speech and how merchants risk offending customers by supporting it with advertising dollars.

Re: “Berkeley Daily Planet to Cease Print Publication

An item in your article about the demise of the Berkeley Daily Planet deserves two corrections: First, the campaign by East Bay Jews against the Planet was motivated by the paper's incessant printing of anti-Semitic content---hate speech---not its incessant anti-Israel content. Second, the campaign expressly did not advocate a boycott of the paper by advertisers, but rather advised advertisers that appearing in such a tainted publication was bad for their business.
