Re: “Opinion: Why Building Housing Near Mass Transit Promotes Collectivism

One might note that our Albany mansion was remodeled up to 1200 sq ft from 850 and sits on a 50 ft wide lot. Albany is densely populated, not suburban sprawl. Only after Salesforce and Facebook managers reported trouble filling open engineering positions because prospects balked at our housing costs did the Bay Area discover it had a housing crisis that needed immediate drastic action.

Re: “You're Not a Progressive If You're Also a NIMBY

We've conflated housing with the issues of homelessness and carbon reduction. I work with local people living in encampments and it seems to me that the lack of money is more significant than the lack of housing. More new housing will quickly go to those who can afford it. If the goal is to get more people on transit, maybe improving transit would more effectively lower carbon emissions than a lot of resource-intensive construction projects. Full disclosure: I live in a single-family home in Albany and love it.
