Jill Stoner: "Toward a Minor Architecture"

When: Thu., Aug. 30, 6-7:30 p.m. 2012
If you grumble every time you pass a failed mall, run-down housing development, or empty shell of an office building, you’ll want to get to know Jill Stoner. In her new book, Toward a Minor Architecture, the associate professor of architecture at UC Berkeley argues that we must look beyond the making of buildings to what happens when they’re no longer necessary, and strip the land of excess capital in order to reconnect with actual, not artificial, nature. It’s art for architects, and something for the rest of us to think about. She’ll read from her book at University Press Books (2430 Bancroft Way, Berkeley) on Thursday, Aug. 30. 6 p.m., free. 510-548-0585 or UniversityPressBooks.com
