Re: “Tuesday’s Briefing: Uber to Sell Oakland Sears Building for $220M; Dungeness Crab Season May Be in Peril Again

Obamacare sabotaged itself. Obama sabotaged healthcare. As the years progress the amount of subsidy required from the Federal Government has increased, with no end in sight. Obama could not get the funds from Congress. So he got the funds through executive order. Trump merely stopped the un-constitutional executive order. It would be great if the editors of this magazine could state things honestly and accurately.

Re: “Living Dangerously

We control the fire in these developed areas. As a result, the vegetation grows more dense, and more flammable. A natural area would be burned out on a regular basis, making the area less flammable. The homes in these areas need to have a yearly tax that pays for regular brush, road, tree and other clearance. Then they would be paying for the cost which the fire ultimately imposes on other taxpayers.

Re: “Supporter of Controversial Israeli Settlements Would Benefit from Exclusive Oakland Public Land Deal

This article is a shameless hit piece, not journalism. The issue has to do with whether the proposed project is worthwhile for Oakland. If you are going to question the background of all investors, then you should always go into the backgtround of investors. However, this so called journalist happens to favor one political agenda over another. So approving projects for Oakland should be a political decision and not an economic decision. This is how Venezuela has become a disaster of a country. If Oakland is guided by this type of so called journalism propaganda, Oakland will follow Venezuela to the bottom of the economic junkpile.

Re: “Alameda County Officials Say Repealing Affordable Care Act Would Be ‘Devastating’

I am so happy to hear that Vincent and Gilbert are enthusiastic about Obamacare. Vincent, Obamacare is subsidized health insurance. I would be delighted for Vincent and Gilbert to contribute their hard earned money to a big fund for the benefit of all of those who did not adequately plan for the future. I have no problem with Vincent and Gilbert giving charity to those who were not responsible enough to take care of themselves. However, other people in this country are tired of subsidizing those who failed to take care of themselves. The number of people on welfare will continue to increase as Vincent and Gilbert give more and more. But if Gilbert and Vincent want to spend their money in that manner, that's fine with me. What gives Vincent and Gilbert the right to impose upon others the necessity of paying into the charity favored by Vincent and Gilbert? As I mentioned, Liberty requires that each person take responsibility for himself. If not, we will have an authoritarian welfare state that grows bigger every year. In fact, our Federal Government has become a huge income redistribution mechanism. This was never the intention of the Founding Fathers or the nature of this country.

Re: “Alameda County Officials Say Repealing Affordable Care Act Would Be ‘Devastating’

More and more people on food stamps. More and more people unemployed. More and more people in need of welfare from the government. That is the legacy of Barack Obama. Now the working citizens need to foot the bill for those who have not taken care of themselves and their families. These people who are in such great need are helpless like children. When are they going to grow up. When will our society demand that these "helpless" adults take care of themselves and not be dependent upon others. The working people of the country have spoken with the election of Donald Trump. Being a citizen in a free society requires that the citizens assume the responsibility of liberty and freedom. Freedom is not "free," it requires responsibility and independence of the individual.

Re: “Will Thousands of East Bay Patients, Workers Lose Coverage, Jobs Due To Trump's 'Obamacare' Repeal?

My understanding is that Obamacare is a FAKE, and that President Obama misrepresented Obamacare. It is almost entirely an extension of Medicaid, which probably covered the gentleman who is the main subject of this article. Medicaid will remain around even if Obamacare is eliminated.

But a lot of people are really worried. They have not taken care of themselves and their families, and obtained employment with medical benefits. They have not planned ahead. We should ask people to take responsibility for their own lives and not expect to be dependent on others, asking others to shoulder their burden.

A society of dependent people is not a strong society. As the working population ages, as the baby boomers age, there will be less of those contributing and more of those who are living off of the government. That spells bankruptcy for government programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Of course, accidents and emergencies happen, and these have always been covered by Medicaid.

Re: “Congresswoman Barbara Lee Discusses Trump's First Week As President

I am yet to see what Barbara Lee has ever accomplished besides talking and giving interviews to a receptive and fawning press. Oakland has continued to have increased crime, poor schools, numerous out of wedlock births, and increased poverty for the African American community. What has she done for the African American people -- NOTHING. She is all talk and no action. Nothing creative. Nothing of value. Yet, the un-thinking electorate votes her in year after year. What a shame.
