Re: “Supporter of Controversial Israeli Settlements Would Benefit from Exclusive Oakland Public Land Deal

This article is a shameless hit piece, not journalism. The issue has to do with whether the proposed project is worthwhile for Oakland. If you are going to question the background of all investors, then you should always go into the backgtround of investors. However, this so called journalist happens to favor one political agenda over another. So approving projects for Oakland should be a political decision and not an economic decision. This is how Venezuela has become a disaster of a country. If Oakland is guided by this type of so called journalism propaganda, Oakland will follow Venezuela to the bottom of the economic junkpile.

Re: “Alameda County Officials Say Repealing Affordable Care Act Would Be ‘Devastating’

I am so happy to hear that Vincent and Gilbert are enthusiastic about Obamacare. Vincent, Obamacare is subsidized health insurance. I would be delighted for Vincent and Gilbert to contribute their hard earned money to a big fund for the benefit of all of those who did not adequately plan for the future. I have no problem with Vincent and Gilbert giving charity to those who were not responsible enough to take care of themselves. However, other people in this country are tired of subsidizing those who failed to take care of themselves. The number of people on welfare will continue to increase as Vincent and Gilbert give more and more. But if Gilbert and Vincent want to spend their money in that manner, that's fine with me. What gives Vincent and Gilbert the right to impose upon others the necessity of paying into the charity favored by Vincent and Gilbert? As I mentioned, Liberty requires that each person take responsibility for himself. If not, we will have an authoritarian welfare state that grows bigger every year. In fact, our Federal Government has become a huge income redistribution mechanism. This was never the intention of the Founding Fathers or the nature of this country.

Re: “Alameda County Officials Say Repealing Affordable Care Act Would Be ‘Devastating’

More and more people on food stamps. More and more people unemployed. More and more people in need of welfare from the government. That is the legacy of Barack Obama. Now the working citizens need to foot the bill for those who have not taken care of themselves and their families. These people who are in such great need are helpless like children. When are they going to grow up. When will our society demand that these "helpless" adults take care of themselves and not be dependent upon others. The working people of the country have spoken with the election of Donald Trump. Being a citizen in a free society requires that the citizens assume the responsibility of liberty and freedom. Freedom is not "free," it requires responsibility and independence of the individual.

Re: “Will Thousands of East Bay Patients, Workers Lose Coverage, Jobs Due To Trump's 'Obamacare' Repeal?

My understanding is that Obamacare is a FAKE, and that President Obama misrepresented Obamacare. It is almost entirely an extension of Medicaid, which probably covered the gentleman who is the main subject of this article. Medicaid will remain around even if Obamacare is eliminated.

But a lot of people are really worried. They have not taken care of themselves and their families, and obtained employment with medical benefits. They have not planned ahead. We should ask people to take responsibility for their own lives and not expect to be dependent on others, asking others to shoulder their burden.

A society of dependent people is not a strong society. As the working population ages, as the baby boomers age, there will be less of those contributing and more of those who are living off of the government. That spells bankruptcy for government programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Of course, accidents and emergencies happen, and these have always been covered by Medicaid.

Re: “Congresswoman Barbara Lee Discusses Trump's First Week As President

I am yet to see what Barbara Lee has ever accomplished besides talking and giving interviews to a receptive and fawning press. Oakland has continued to have increased crime, poor schools, numerous out of wedlock births, and increased poverty for the African American community. What has she done for the African American people -- NOTHING. She is all talk and no action. Nothing creative. Nothing of value. Yet, the un-thinking electorate votes her in year after year. What a shame.

Re: “Two Minimum Wage Initiatives for Berkeley Ballot

There is a good reason why Berkeley has not developed various industries, such as high tech and bio tech. Entrepreneurs do not want to locate in an area that has no concept of industrial development and growing the businesses that provide jobs. This crazy idea of a minimum wage for Berkeley will just continue to make Berkeley a basket case. Were it not for coffee shops and restaurants, what is left in Berkeley? No reasonable business person wants to locate in Berkeley, to pay the high city taxes, deal with bad traffic and parking, and be subject to the stupidity of a minimum wage. Anyone who studies economics realizes that the minimum wage reduces jobs, causing a substitution of capital for labor. Next the minimum wage people are going to call for more welfare to support those people whom they have put out of work. However, socialists have a blind eye to the harm which they cause. They just keep plugging for their deeply held beliefs, even when proven wrong time and time again.

Re: “My Lunch with Donald Trump: Behind The Scenes at the Presumptive GOP Nominee's Bay Area Visit

This writer sees nothing but his own limited narcissism. Trump has completely upset and unraveled the Democrats, Progressives, Socialists and Communists, all Hillary and Sanders supporters. He is bringing to the Republican Party a new wave of members. These are the ordinary Americans that have been left behind by the Socialists that run the Democratic Party. Sure there are goofy things going on with Trump. But there are worse things going on with Obama, Hillary and Sanders.
