Re: “Is the Only Way to Make Housing Affordable By De-Commodifying It?

The author neglects the basic law of supply and demand. You must encourage investment in new housing in order to make housing cheaper. All of this government interference merely discourages new investment, thereby raising the cost of new housing. When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Re: “Wall Street Comes to Alameda

Large landlords are encouraged by rent control and eviction controls. Only large companies can hire the army of attorneys and managers necessary to deal with rent control, eviction control, and unlawful detainer control. Again the good intentions of the inexperienced do-gooders pave the road to unintended consequences.

Re: “Black and Female Recruits Missing from Latest Oakland Police Academy

WHO would want to work in Oakland? The police are the brunt of terrible political correctness. There is a war against the police.

Re: “Oakland Tenants Take Direct Action to Fight Large Rent Hikes

Again people with no grounding in economics think that they are going to do good for the community. Quite the reverse. Efforts to eliminate Costa Hawkins will do nothing more than discourage real estate developers from investing in Oakland. The end result is fewer units built. And no incentive to improve existing units. As the housing stock diminishes, there are no places for people to live. Also, the pressure of more renters against fewer units inevitably will force rents higher. These do-gooders, who have no economics knowledge, they do nothing more than ruin the city of Oakland and do more harm than good in the long run.

Re: “The East Bay Helped Lead The Resistance Against Trump

Hi Vince, Thanks for your reference to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. The real test is in the economic growth that has resulted from Trump's policies and will result from these policies, including the tax reduction. Economic growth already is near all time levels. I realize that you hate Trump, as does the media. But your hatred blinds you the the reality. Average Americans see this reality, and they are the ones who voted for Trump. They are the ones who benefit from his policies. As the so-called progressives shudder and cry, the American economy continues upward, and the average american continues to benefit. The result will be a second term for Trump. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Re: “The East Bay Helped Lead The Resistance Against Trump

The stock market is roaring. The economy is far better than under Obama. People are seeing real increases in their standards of living. Man made climate change is a hoax, and is being identified as such. Anyone right of center is called a Nazi by the virulent left. Balance has been restored to the Supreme Court. The dismal failure of Obamacare is being reversed. Unregulated immigration is being reduced. Real people in the middle class are getting a tax cut. Taxes are being reduced for almost everyone. Finally, someone is speaking up for the working people of this country. All because of Trump. This article is off the wall at best.

Re: “Tuesday’s Briefing: Uber to Sell Oakland Sears Building for $220M; Dungeness Crab Season May Be in Peril Again

Obamacare sabotaged itself. Obama sabotaged healthcare. As the years progress the amount of subsidy required from the Federal Government has increased, with no end in sight. Obama could not get the funds from Congress. So he got the funds through executive order. Trump merely stopped the un-constitutional executive order. It would be great if the editors of this magazine could state things honestly and accurately.
