Jerry Brown's spokesman has admitted to secretly taping journalists without their consent - a violation of state law. California is one of twelve states that requires the notification of all parties before a phone call is taped. Brown's spokesman, Scott Gerber, admitted to secretly taping a phone call with San Francisco Chronicle veteran reporter Carla Marinucci, according to the Chron, who was reporting on a story about Brown's office giving favorable treatment to a campaign contributor. The attorney general's office has since said that it will no longer tape record people without their consent. Gerber, however, apparenlty will be allowed to keep his job and there is no indication that he will be investigated for breaking state law.
