Re: “Move Your Car, Or Face the Sticky Consequences

Now how can the East Bay Express remain so so cool, portraying the dazzling hipness of nightlife here in the EBay, covering music, food and clublife, while at the same time defending those who are such lame asses that they don't leave their house for 3 days? Or are they riding their track bikes instead?

Re: “What Racism?

I was at the inaugural, too. I definitely heard a few whispered comments about Ignacio, but can't say that racism was the story of the day. the fact was is that it was Ron's day, and it was ruined by his own supporters. Although, in all honety, I think most of the heckling came from the Brooks contingent, which is distinct (quite distinct, in fact) from the dellums contingent. This is the divide that will cause problems for Dellums

Re: “Dellums' Transparency Starts Off Opaquely

WEll done, bob, to stick with it and try to keep Dellums accountable. I wish you luck in the coming years. I, too, noticed that Mr smith's "interfaith" prayer (if by intefaith you mean different strains of Afircan American protestantism, by the look of the stage) began with two things: 1) God, make the press take it easy on Dellums, and 2) God, make sure Dellums gets enough vacation But since Dellums has no "priorities," I'll assume those won't be God's either

Re: “Exclusive: Feds Scrutinize Oakland Developer

Uh, yeah, Alan, it's a racial thing with African Americans. That's why the feds are digging for dirt on Perata (white), De La Fuente (latino) and Lily Hu (Asian). Gimme a break!

Re: “Wealthy Lefties Open Wallets for Green Party candidate Aimee Allison

Whatever everyone here says, there is indeed a double-standard here, as far as Allison's holier-than-thou clean elections rhetoric. Independent expenditures are part of politics and are legal, under certain restrictions. The main problem I have here with Allison is that she, on a number of occasions, called on Pat to publically denounce independent expenditures, and has been quoted as recently as today in the East Bay Express saying she does not believe that Pat knew nothing of the OakPAC expenditures. Now, she has failed to do a similar public denouncement (we know Allison has no fear of press conferences) and also expects us to believe her--I mean, her campaign spokesman--when she says she did not ask for the help. Again, the issue for me isn't campaigning. It's simply that Allison, absent any actual record of accomplishment in District 2 (and nobody in her campaign is saying otherwise) is running solely on her character. So, character becomes an issue. Pat's running on results--so if someone doesn't like Pat because they didn't get a call returned, Pat can;t say shit. That's called accountability. It runs both ways here. I'd also point out that both David and Shirley have more recent public statements in favor of Pat, and a number of private statements, not so laudatory, about Aimee Allison. People get to change their minds--Nadel didn't endorse Aimee first time out, right?

Re: “Business Group Says It Won't Buy Oakland Election, After All

I understand Allison had an independent expenditure mailer drop today. Some San Francisco lawyer apparently paid for it.

Re: “Election 2006: Green Party Candidate Selling Her-Gasp-SUV!

Gasp! Hypocrisy from Aimee Allison! 1) No handouts to businesses in City Hall, but Aimee Allison doesn't pay her Business Taxes. "It's a nonissue." 2) Everyone should go green, but Aimee Allison's household has an SUV. "That's not how we roll?" Um, yes it is. 3) But we've missed one: Aimee's against gentrification and displacement, but her husband is a real estate agent! Gentrification is freakin puttin the food on her table! How about them apples?
