I have seen that in my school. In our school paper there was an editorial by a black student. She called out a lot of the other black students, and those guilty of borderline persecutive stereotyping with the title "You don't act a color". She pointed out that when she didn't you slang she wasn't talking "white" she was talking "right". She argued that people put too many stereotypes on themselves. Noting that even though she would use slang outside of school that doesn't mean she isn't going to blow off English class because that is what people expect. It was well written, and is most likely the reason for this. I wouldn't know I don't know the family. The same goes for all people though. White kids shouldn't justify mediocre grades by saying "Well all those Asian kids are so smart, of course I was lower on the grading curve". jenny http://www.spaml.com
