Thank you, Kathleen Wentz and the East Bay Express, for covering this complex topic in a serious way.

For my money, the ability and willingness to question "conventional wisdom" is an essential feature of an open and democratic society. I admire the work of people like Christine Ahn and the Korea Policy Institute in providing information and perspectives that are new to many people in this country.

The national conversation on US-Korea relations has been stuck in a polarized stalemate for decades. It's encouraging to know that Korean American activists feel a change in Washington -- hopefully a way out of this time warp. Korean communities (on the peninsular and in diaspora) have lived with the political, social, economic and environmental legacies of World War II for far too long.
