Re: “Reformers Re-Up on Ammo at New Directions California Conference Today

This 'Activist' is representing the usual frantic, hysteria of the prohibitionists. As the wall of prohibition keep sgetting chipped at, we will see more and more of this hysteria. The river of dumb these people represent is nothing less than stunning on like....a galactic magnitude.

Listen to the bellowing of these big government prohibitionists: "Prop 19 restricts the regulating and taxing of marijuana solely to each city and county."

Now you are complaining that each city and county can decide for themselves whether or not they want to sell and tax cannabis? Seems pretty considerate to me. A new layer of government? Really? Why is it that the existing city govt. cannot make these decisions themselves?

local government will be responsible for all tax collecting with no assistance from either the State or Federal government

OH THE HUMANITY! Yes , and they already do this when they collect your other taxes as well (assuming you do pay taxes). No assistance from the state! Oh lord! Because counties and cities are absolutely incapable of collecting local taxes without the help of the state, right? Pffft....

A most challenging and costly responsibility of each civic entity will be to establish and fund its own labs to attempt to determine a safe level of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the marijuana to be sold in pot shops.

You're joking right?

The Office of National Drug Control Policy states this is at least 10 times more toxic than in the 1970’s.

Ummm.... toxic? Nice choice of words, even if it is far from the mark.

former Mayor of West Covina, CA, says, “The idea that every city and county in California has the ability to safely and competently control aspirin, much less a drug like cannabis is an idea that is laughable and needs to be rejected.”

Laughable? Yes. That's a good analogy too... as cannabis is far less harmful than aspirin. And what better expert to quote than the former mayor of West Covina...... Har har.

They do have a role…to pay for increased costs of auto accidents, rehabilitation, mental health treatment, emergency room care, increased crime, and broken families that are the result of greater pot use.

Um hmmm....

The numbers are startling. In the United States, 42.4 percent admitted having used marijuana. The only other nation that came close was New Zealand, another bastion of get-tough policies, at 41.9 percent. No one else was even close. The results for cocaine use were similar, with the United States leading the world by a large margin.

Some of the most striking numbers are from the Netherlands, where adults are permitted to possess a small of marijuana and purchase it from regulated businesses. Some U.S. officials have claimed that these Dutch policies have created some sort of decadent cesspool of drug abuse, but the new study demolishes such assertions: In the Netherlands, only 19.8 percent have used marijuana, less than half the U.S. figure.

Even more striking is what the researchers found when they asked young adults when they had started using marijuana. Again, the United States led the world, with 20.2 percent trying marijuana by age 15. No other country was even close, and in the Netherlands, just 7 percent used marijuana by 15 -- roughly one-third of the U.S. figure.

So ummmmm Mister/Miss Activist.. could you tell me again why prohibition is a good thing?
