Re: “Pistol-Whipped in Oakland

I am a resident of this neighborhood, and I would sure like more information regarding the statements made by the officer.
What exact type of crime is occurring in this neighborhood at a higher rate than anywhere else in Oakland? Young men stealing personal items at gunpoint?
Yes, I know that there are consistent problems in this area, but I can't believe that it is any way a virtual war zone. Are we to believe that the incidences of young men harassing people at gunpoint occurs here at a higher rate than a crack corner on 98th avenue? Should we move to the most hardcore area of east Oakland so that we can enjoy a lower crime rate?
I don't think it is polite or professional to make those kind of statements without having serious facts to back it up. I live here and have small children. If there are more serious gun robberies here than in any other area of Oakland - I need to know. Oakland has a rightful reputation as one of the most violent cities in the country. If Haddon Hill is the epicenter, than I need to get out.
Also, I still can't believe that anyone in Oakland would need an event like this to trigger the purchase of outdoor lights. I am constantly having folks roll there eyes when I explain that powerful motion activated outdoor lighting is a no-brainer. It is quite effective and ridiculously cheap. I am constantly amazed by the folks who show up at the neighborhood watch group, then walk home to a residence in complete darkness.
For the record, the people who got assaulted did everything right. They are kind, responsible people and they remain in our prayers.
