Re: “Berkeley Liberal Blogs from Iraq

That's the kind of grandma I aspire to be. By the way, I'm the mom who's being evicted from the Woodfin Suite Hotel in Emeryville for speaking up on behalf of the 21 housekeepers fired a week before Christmas. They themselves had bravely spoken up in front of the Emeryville City Council about the Woodfin's violation of the city's living wage law. Juanita Carroll Young

Re: “Woodfin Manager Says Eviction Warranted

Oy! It's hard to look at that (the Woodfin's response), since I don't drink the same Republican corporate kool-aid they're drinking. I have no idea what they're talking about when they say I've mantained a blog--could they be more specific? I have heard that some angry Emeryville resident has threatened to post one on our behalf, but he has never contacted me directly. I get the feeling that the Woodfin wants to credit me for all of the East Bay Agency for Sustainable Economy's hard work in the Living Wage campaign. They actually HAVE posted a blog, which can be visited at woodfinwatch dot org What inspires me is the bravery of the 21 hotel workers at the Woodfin (many of them single moms) who lost their jobs a week before Christmas. Like me, they have seen their children cry because of the actions of the management of the Woodfin Suites Hotel. These workers then held their heads high and continued to talk to the Emeryville City Council and the media, despite many Woodfin threats. I feel compelled to do the same. And, 30 days is definitely inadequate time in terms of finding new housing for a family with a kid and a dog in this Bay Area. In terms of "We have done our best to accommodate her as we would any other valued guest during her long stay with us"...Feh! on Woodfin; they've owed my husband $1,200 for several months for some architectural advice he gave them for their new restaurant, and they gave us $0 when our car was stolen from their parking lot, claiming they had no responsibility for what goes on in their lot. When a neighboring client threatened physical harm to our family in a noise dispute, the Woodfin didn't evict him.
