Jazz on 4th Street Festival

This year's Jazz on Fourth Street Festival has a special treat in store for fans and supporters of music education in Berkeley. A group of super-star emeriti from the school district's jazz programs -- including pianist Michael Aaberg, bassist Miles Perkins, drummer Josh Jones, and trumpeter Mark Wright -- will perform standards and original tunes to commemorate veteran BerkeleyHigh School jazz teacher Charles Hamilton on the eve of his retirement. The aptly-named Charles Hamilton Alumni Band rounds off a lineup with Tito y Su Son de Cuba, Johnny Nitro & the Doorslammers, and the current Berkley High Jazz Ensemble & combos. On Sunday, May 17, on Fourth St. (between Hearst and Virginia sts.). Raffle for a $1,000 gift certificate at Pave Fine Jewelry will benefit the Berkeley High jazz program. Noon-5 p.m., free.
