Re: “Oakland Replaces Car Parking With Street 'Parklets'

RE: Jan Van Dusen's concerns: The City of Oakland ordinance requires that parklets be "revenue neutral," meaning that loss of parking revenue must be recouped in some fashion. In the case of the parklet in question, the City of Oakland will establish two new parking spots around the corner on Loma Vista Ave. to replace the ones utilized by the parklet on MacArthur. There should be no revenue loss provided the same amount of car traffic continues. On the question of business support in the district, the following businesses have signed up as parklet co-sponsors by donating $$ to the project: World Ground Cafe, State Farm Agent Jain Williams, Communité Table, Sequoia Diner, Movement Ink, Kelly's Corner, Weinstein Local, Kids 'N Dance 'N Theater Arts Studio, and The Source Chiropractic Center. During the 10-day public comment period none of the local businesses voiced any objection to the project, though some constructive comments were integrated into the design.
