Re: “Chevron Bids to Retake Richmond

Albeit not quite to the extent of Chevron, what is so overlooked by the media is that VEOLIA has also had a major influence in Richmond politics with thousands of dollars in both individual campaign contributions as well as PACs (BMW)

Where Chevron may keep money out of the City's coffers because of tax loopholes, Veolia takes money directly out of the hands of the taxpayers by not doing what they're contracted to do and by the City filing a lawsuit against VEOLIA in 2008 that lasted 17 months and resulted in VEOLIA paying Richmond $1.92 million.

Of the current council, Mayor hopefuls,

TOM BUTT and NAT BATES, took campaign contributions from Veolia (Vivendi/US Filter) leading up to Richmond signing the privatization contract of its wastewater system to VEOLIA in 2002 and afterwards.

JIM ROGERS has also taken contributions from Veolia.

Besides the issues that led up to the 2008 lawsuit, Veolia has also been responsible for allowing Hydrogen Sulfide to be released into the community causing residents to become ill, failed to report sewage spills within the state-mandated time, been fined $150,000 by Contra Costa DA, to name a few.

Re: “The Man Behind Richmond's Renaissance

I like his transparent and open-door policy, too. Particularly, how he listens so well and make sure he has all of the "facts" before proceeding.

I think Lindsay's being too modest. I believe that the city is INDEED doing "swimmingly" particularly in my neighborhood.

You can be assured that Bill will bring in new business and fix the infrastructure. Then again, I guess it all depends on where you live.
