Re: “Remembering Chris Thompson

A tribute to a great writer by some of the best writers in the Bay Area. Especially happy to see John Raeside's tribute, having been a devoted Express reader since 1979. Thanks to all, and especially to Chris Thompson, who I never knew but whose work I deeply respected.

Re: “Goodbye, Mr. Magnus

Awesome story about an awesome chief. Fascinating analysis that the mass departure of (incompetent) department heads during a financial crisis actually enabled a positive transformation.

I'll miss Chief Magnus more than I can say. As a 15-year Richmond resident, i can attest to how dramatically things changed from an often adversarial relationship with the police to an outstanding one. I hope the new chief is promoted from within so we get someone who reflects Magnus' values.

Re: “No, Governor Brown, You Shut Up

I had no idea that Gov. Brown told folks to trust Michael Peevey. This is seriously distressing - all the points in this piece are seriously distressing. For a long time, I thought the world of the governor and his policies, but he's looking worse every minute. Many thanks to Bob Gammon for this fact-filled and thoughtful column.

Re: “READER CONTEST: Help Robert Gammon Find a New Life's Mission

These suggestions make me want to rend my garments. Is it not enough for you that Mr. Gammon has ferreted out endless misdoings, yea, verily, not just those of the Don, but Mayor Dellums and a raft of other douchebag public officials? Winning a boatload of journalism awards in the process?

I defend to the death - well, at least to the point of mild inconvenience - Mr. Gammon's right to take it easy, maybe write a few light pieces about local restaurants, even. Why is it that Anneli Rufus always gets to chow down for pay, while poor Gammon spends long nights burning the midnight oil poring over Ron Dellums' calendar? There are those who would consider the latter a fate worse than death.

I hereby propose that we start the Bob Gammon Relief Fund. Send your contribution in unmarked bills to the Express, maybe with the suggestion of some restaurant, concert or sporting event Gammon can review. Fellow readers, you can help lessen the inhuman stress on this hardworking journalist ... or you can click "Next."
