When: Sun., June 2, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: free

If you're looking for a light summer love story, look no further than Jan-Philipp Sendker's debut novel, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, which he'll share this week at Books Inc. (1344 Park St., Alameda). A New York lawyer disappears without a trace, until his daughter Julia finds a love letter written decades before to a woman in Burma. The letter leads Julia on a mission to uncover the mysterious woman's identity in an attempt to discover her father's whereabouts, but ends up telling a much bigger untold story about her father's past.
