Ishmael Reed

When: Wed., June 12, 7-9 p.m. 2019
Ishmael Reed, writer, scholar, and master of American letters asked writer and organizer, Theo Konrad Auer to organize a poetry reading with him. His only mandate was simple, he said: “Make it good.” With this in mind, Auer has carefully put together a group reading aimed toward addressing the culture and decontextualizing history. Gathering several leading lights from the vibrant Oakland literary community along with Reed is Burmese-American poet and educator, Maw Shein Win, author of Score and Bone (Nomadic Press, 2016); California Book Award and American Book Award winner, Tongo Eisen-Martin, author of Heaven Is All Good Goodbyes (City Lights, 2017); Paul Corman-Roberts, author of Obituaries Found On the Backs of Cocktail Napkins (Tainted Coffee Press, 2007) and founder of Litquake’s East Bay sibling, BeastCrawl. Some of Reed’s students will begin this stellar evening of words and power.
