Is the East Bay Sniper Back?

In early 2004, one or more snipers terrorized a stretch of Interstate 580 between San Leandro and Dublin. In a badly screwed up investigation, the California Highway Patrol arrested a Stockton man for the shootings. But the CHP had virtually no evidence and the suspect was essentially exonerated in the case -- although the CHP successfully got him prosecuted on a minor drug offense. Now, more than five years later, a new sniper or snipers appears to be terrorizing East Bay motorists. According to the Oakland Tribune, the CHP is investigating five shootings along a section of I-680 between Sunol and Fremont. The sniper or snipers have been shooting out the windows of passing cars. Let's hope the CHP figures out how to investigate the shootings this time around.
