High-brow metal continues plowing fertile ground. The latest comes from Southern California's Intronaut, whose forthcoming album Prehistoricisms adopts the evolution metaphor quite aptly: in changing time signatures detuned, thick-as-molasses riffs trudge among active, melodic bass lines; scraping bog-monster vocals; spiraling guitars; and gorgeous, delicately light bridges. You could file them somewhere between Mastodon, Meshuggah, and Pelican. The band headlines a show that includes the similarly bleak-is-beautiful Mouth of the Architect, Behold... The Arctopus, Ganon, and Grayceon at Thee Parkside (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Aug. 29. 8:30 p.m., $10, $12.
