If there’s one common thread that has the power to tie together 13th-century Persia, 16th-century India, and the present day, it’s the search for love. Join performance artist and dancer Naina Shastri and visual artist Salma Arastu in their journey through the lives of Persian mystic Rumi and Hindu saint Meera Bai. The project is the artists’ first collaboration with each other and Arastu’s first foray away from two-dimensional media. The multimedia performance art piece combines classical Indian dance, poetry, and video projection to present a rumination on the universal themes of love and the salvation wrought by it like none other. Catch it Thursday evening at Berkeley Art Center or keep your eyes peeled for another chance to dive into the beautiful, timeless narrative woven by Shastri and Arastu.
