In Plain Sight: Stories You Never Knew You Never Knew

When: Sept. 5-20 2015
Price: $30 suggested, sliding scale
Director Elizabeth Vega and playwright Carol Lashof formed Those Women Productions in 2014 with the goal of presenting plays that discuss gender and power dynamics. On September 5, the company will premier its second production, In Plain Sight, an anthology of six short locally written plays that peer into relationship dynamics and test the lengths that people will go to remain in control. Each of the six plays is a twisted retelling of a classic tale. Both Kat Mead’s comedy “Palace Watch” and Patricia Reynoso’s dark “Pankhadi and the Prince” are based on Cinderella. Meanwhile, Lee Brady’s “Mississippi Medea” depicts an updated Medea appearing on her favorite talk show. And in Carol Lashof’s “After the Prologue,” the famous Wife of Bath from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales gives the audience an idea of what women desire that’s not filtered through the penmanship of a man. In Plain Sight will be playing at the Metal Shop Theater (2702 Regent St., Berkeley) on weekends from September 5 through 20.
