Comedy, Drama
A pair of oofty-goofty Irish hoodlums (Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson) on the lam from the London underworld hide out in the achingly picturesque antique Belgian city, where they drink beer, make fun of fat Americans, sightsee, and eventually come to blows with their perturbed boss (Ralph Fiennes). Along the way, writer-director Martin McDonagh gives them bright, un-clichéd dialogue about nothing in particular and everything in general -- and is rewarded by terrific performances all around, including what may be Ferrell’s career-best job of acting. Clémence Poésy and Jordan Prentice shine in character support as a drug dealer and a little-person film actor, respectively (107 min.).
