This Thursday you won’t need to buy licorice whips and beer. That’s because a representative from Bend, Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery will be at Harry’s Hofbrau (14900 East 14th St., San Leandro) that evening to pour and discuss Abyss, an imperial stout brewed only once a year that’s infused with licorice, cherry bark, vanilla beans, and blackstrap molasses, and barrel-aged in French oak and bourbon barrels. Also available that night will be Deschutes’ Black Butte XXV, a barrel-aged porter brewed with chocolate and currants, and the Northwestern pale ale Red Chair.
