Impact Briefs: Puberty

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Continues through June 6 2009
Price: $12-$17

In its latest collection of short plays, Berkeley's Impact Theatre challenged itself to make puberty just a little less dreadful. The seven plays in Impact Briefs: Puberty have all the awkwardness of a Seventies-era sex-ed film (you can almost hear the reel getting stuck in the projector), but some of them are genuinely clever. Diana Bertinelli's "Binkie My Binkie" provides an imaginative satire of teen cybersex, while Cheshire Isaacs depicts a worst-case wet-dream scenario to great comic effect. Best of the bunch is David Kongstvedt's "The Talk," which puts a new spin on the old birds-and-bees (think how that conversation might have gone down in the Twilight). In between sketches the actors read sex questions contributed by local middle and high school students. Hilarity ensues. Through June 6 at LaVal's Subterranean Theatre (1834 Euclid Ave., Berkeley).
