Re: “A New Home for Oaktown Jazz Workshops

YoYo... I am not against the "SF Jazz Center" SF Jazz is already employing local musicans and spreading the amazing gift of Jazz to thousands... they use some of the same cats over and over again (who makes these decisions? that's where your energy should go... seek them out and ask why?)
"dust of the hate"... of course I could always stand to do that. What I am simply saying is that hating & jealousy creates separatism. Are we trying to develop attention about jazz & live music in the Bay or are we going to point fingers at each other about who's who? (but your point is Valid/Khalil a saint? I don't even think he thinks that way... he's just trying to make it and bring the people with him)
Do you think it is possible for Mayor Quan to point out every Jazz educator in the city of Oakland that is doing a wonderful job? really/Impossible.
To me this "OJW" victory means that Major Quan/the city of Oakland wants to celebrate and honor the institution of Jazz ? That means you. Now how will we hold her/the city accountable and create what we need from this achivment?
Perhaps you should have already been recgonized... I know many who should have been... maybe we should just start listing Oakland's Jazz Musican/educator of the Week or day even, cause there are serveral...

Re: “A New Home for Oaktown Jazz Workshops

Seriously YoYo, lol you are jealous. Who gives a 2-5-1 if it's Khalil or you (can't play with my) "YoYo". I see this as an opportunity for me to dust off my ideas and propose them to the "OJW". This is an opportunity for our poor jazz community (the folks in the trenches: teachers, local musicians etc...) to rise up! OJW is now located directly across from Yoshi's Oakland. Hummm Perhaps this is helping all of us? Could tourist & people in Oakland see Jazz in another light and want to become apart of live audiences? (it could happen). BTW: Are you clear that San Francisco has just developed a whole other jazz beast called "The SFJazz Center" http://www.sfjazz.org/support
That I'm sure you YoYo are not apart of cause your to freakin' jealous!.
Khalil is a wonderful man and instructor, it's bout time one of us (who have been working the trenches) got a place to call home... I hope they get lot's of money and attention... I hope they create a concert series that gives Yoshi's a run for their money. I hope that only amazing positive things come from this venture... and that you YoYo take this time to dust off the hate and get to playin' and creating and supporting your jazz bros & sisters... we are a small community and need each other. Khalil and OJW is not clear channel. he's approachable, willing and able.
RE: do the kids get money... really? is money what this is all about? they get more than money... That's what's wrong with California jazz musicians... they worry about the money first and playing second.
We could be a much stronger community: making money, and playing harder if folks would just stop the hating and come together... it sounds cliche, but it's real. We have a lot of wonderful thriving musicians here... I am one of them and so are you.
