Documentary
Was it “domestic terrorism” or “economic sabotage” when members of the Earth Liberation Front used arson to punish companies and institutions they deemed guilty of destroying the environment, in a series of actions in the early 2000s? This and other questions are the subjects of director Marshall Curry’s thought-provoking documentary, focusing on the radicalization of Daniel McGowan of New York City, who went from office worker to a key position in the radical environmentalist group, based in and around Eugene, Oregon. An intelligent look at civil disobedience and the official criminalization of enviros who take peaceful demonstrations one step further. Co-directed by Sam Cullman. Written by Matthew Hamacheck and Curry. (90 min.)
Director: Marshall Curry
