After Danish punk band Iceage broke into the American indie rock scene in 2011 with its shockingly good debut, New Brigade, not many were surprised when this year's follow-up, You're Nothing, met expectations and then some with its moody, oil-black brand of post-punk and aggressive hardcore. The album gives Iceage fans access to its more emotive side (best heard on "Morals") and signaled a newfound maturity for the young band (the average age of Iceage members was seventeen when accolades for New Brigade began pouring in). Gratefully, the band hasn't lost an ounce of its trademark ferocity -- evident on "Ecstasy" and "Coalition," whose propulsive drumming, crunchy guitar-shredding, and teeth-gnashing vocals make them two of the year's best punk tracks so far. Iceage will play at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland) on Tuesday, Mar. 26, with Merchandise, Wet Hair, and San Francisco punk outfit Synthetic ID. 9 p.m., $12.
