Laughably awful melodrama takes a quartet of fortyish conspicuous substance abusers – Thomas Jane, Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe, and Christian McKay – sticks them in a picturesque Big Sur seaside house, and lets them go all to hell. Has everything that’s required for a foolish time at the movies: absurdly histrionic acting, cliché-filled scenario, barf-inducing dialogue, and the gnawing suspicion that screenwriter Glenn Porter was somehow holding back, keeping something even worse in reserve. Directed without hope for redemption by Mark Pellington. (107 min.)
