Documentary, Music
Let’s go for a drive through the Mississippi Delta and meet a few of the remaining original blues singers and musicians that gave their region its everlasting fame. This rocking documentary by cultural voyager Daniel Cross (Tokyo Idols, Up the Yangtze) almost has too much fun hanging out with Bobby Rush, Barbara Lynn, “Lil’ Buck” Sinegal, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, Little Freddie King, and a long list of other Mississippi and Louisiana blues folks, in juke joints and on front porches. As amiably informative as the best of Les Blank’s roots music films, which is saying a lot. Written and directed by Cross (106 min., 2015, not rated).
