Well, this is just lovely. The Muir Heritage Land Trust is about to buy 423 acres of pristine open space near Hercules and set it aside as permanent open space. The Chron reports that the area, which is known as Franklin Canyon, has been the source of contentious fights for years, as developers tried to clear the trees and build tract homes and a hotel on the site. Now, the canyon will be safe forever, and will even link up to the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Huzzah!
