Animated, Comedy, Fantasy
It’s a resort for monsters, far away from their enemies, the humans. The owner is Dracula (voice of Adam Sandler), whose adolescent 118-year-old daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), also a vampire, becomes smitten with a human backpacker named Jonathan (Andy Samberg) who inadvertently drops in and is forced to masquerade as a creature to avoid being eaten. The lavishly produced Sony animated comedy’s message is ultimately one of tolerance – the living and the living dead really can meet and fall in love. Awww. The visuals were obviously inspired by the work of Tim Burton; the story line is the same as any pre-teen romance. Lotsa fart, pee, and poop jokes for the kids, and there’s a Twilight gag for the grownups. Perfectly toothless. Directed by veteran TV hand Genndy Tartakovsky from a story and screenplay written by five zombies. (92 min.)
