Hot August Skates

When: Wednesdays-Saturdays, 5-9 p.m. Continues through Sept. 1
The explosion of scooters on the Oakland streets may have been the cause for the resurgence of the old-school roller skates. Yes, the ones with the stopper on the toe. Sponsored by Sole Stop, this group show invites visitors to delve into the underground cultures and styles of roller-skating across California and the United States fine art, dance, fashion, and installation. Artist Beto Lopez will be showing classic van and disco art, while Richard Humphrey will teach the finer points of roller-skate dancing. Add roller-skate fashion tips form designers Sagah Stylisms Al-Kassab and Anthony Alonzo, and then pick up an air-brushed T-shirt from Malcolm Stuart ‘s art booth and you’ll be ready to take to lake in style.
