This workshop will cover the rich history of brass playing (trumpet and trombone) in Afro-Caribbean music through transcriptions, videos, and hands-on playing. We’ll examine the early brass bands in the colonial Americas through to the Salsa revolution. Key instrumentalists include trombonists Mon Rivera, Generoso “Tojo” Jimenez, Barry Rogers. Willie Colon, Jimmy Bosch, William Cepeda and Papo Vasquez and trumpeters Felix Chappotin, Alfredo “Chocolate” Armenteros, Jerry Gonzalez, Arturo Sandoval and Jesus Alemany. Open to all musicians and to anyone interested in learning more about the incredible legacy of Afro-Caribbean music.
