The Vogels, a sweet, mild-mannered New York City husband and wife of modest means (he’s a postal clerk, she’s a librarian) have devoted their lives to collecting works of minimalist and conceptual art, and in so doing have quietly become one of the country’s most knowledgeable teams of collectors. Their prime criterion, aside from the value they see in a piece: It has to be compact enough for them to carry it home on the subway and display it in their one-bedroom apartment. As one museum official marvels: “Anybody else could have accessed the art world in this way, but no one else did.” Among the talking heads: Sol LeWitt, Christo, Robert Mangold, and Chuck Close. You come away from watching director-producer Megumi Sasaki’s profile with a feeling of purity (89 min.).
