Heat and Smog Coming Your Way

Get ready to bake in triple-digit temperatures and choke on volatile organic compounds, because the Bay Area's in for both today. According to the Oakland Tribune, the air quality district has declared a Spare the Air day for the second day in a row, and temperatures are so extreme that Governor Schwarzenegger has ordered the opening of "cooling centers" for senior citizens who might otherwise, you know, die. And if that weren't enough, there's a major fire warning in effect for the East Bay hills! We suspect you know that building a bonfire in some dry grass near Tilden Park isn't the wisest course of action at the moment. But just in case you don't, please consider another way to be stupid.
