Hayward Mayor Suffers Bad Beat to Card Club

The Hayward City Council voted 5-2 to let the aging matriarch who owns the Palace Card Club transfer her license to her kids. Mike Sweeney, the new mayor and former assemblyman, was on the losing side of the vote, arguing unsuccessfully that the card room "runs counter" to the city's efforts to revitalize its downtown. Funny, we thought poker was one of the country's biggest growth industries. Also, see the KTVU report done before the vote.
