Writer-director Mitchell Lichtenstein, whose Teeth took a bite out of the teen horror genre, retreats a bit with this haphazard family comedy about two fortyish sisters (Parker Posey and Demi Moore) who return to Pittsburgh, PA to care for their benignly demented father (Rip Torn), with no help from Dad’s crack ho girlfriend (Ellen Barkin). Barkin’s role as the bag-lady-ish Shelly is one for the books. Torn has played crazier men. But mostly it’s a showcase for Moore and Posey – their touching long-lost-sister act is the film’s saving grace (95 min.).
