A lot of people abuse those handicap placards for their own chintzy, lazy desires. According to an article in the Chron, the number of disabled parking placards in California more than doubled during the past decade, with one issued for every sixteen residents. Now a web site hopes to shame these abusers into coming clean, or at least getting their placard revoked. allows users to fill out a form reporting suspected abusers (with comments), which is then turned over to the DMV for possible fine and suspension. Though initially focused on the Bay Area, the site expanded into a nationwide effort. However, several potential East Bay offenders have popped up recently. A couple weeks ago, one Oakland driver was accused of using a deceased family member's placard. Yesterday, someone reported in Concord: "Young women, 20 something, drives a brown Lexus RX 300, parks in handicap space everyday at our office parking garage. She has no visible physical impairment, she prances out of her car everyday with no guilt whatsoever!"
