Groundbreaking Ceremony

When: Fri., May 30, 5:30 p.m. 2008
Price: free

What with all the talk about the demise of the printed word in America, what better cause for celebration than the birth of a brand-new library? Light refreshments will be served at a May 30 groundbreaking ceremony for the East Oakland Community Library (1021 81st Ave., Oakland). Set to open in 2009, the 21,000-square-foot structure will be adjacent to two public schools: ACORNWoodlandSchool and EnCompassAcademy. 5:30 p.m. OaklandLibrary.org
