Horror, Thriller
A touring punk band gets booked into a white supremacist dance hall in the Oregon woods. Stand by for trouble – not only on screen but in the scenario of Jeremy Saulnier’s one-dimensional actioner. How are Imogen Poots, Anton Yelchin, and the rest of the punks going to escape the title room and the murderous rage of neo-Nazi Patrick Stewart and his plug uglies? The only suspense revolves around weapons: box cutter, pit bull, revolver, or shotgun? If writer-director Saulnier – who made 2013 vastly superior Blue Ruin – had injected some Tucker and Dale slasher humor into the mix, or better yet given the flaxen-haired Poots more room to operate, the pic might have made its mark as a parody. No such luck (95 min.).
