Girl Stock Art & Music Festival Gulf Coast/New Orleans Fund-Raiser Critics' Pick Staff Pick

When: Sun., Oct. 5, 6-11 p.m. 2008
Price: $3

Hurricanes may now be at the bottom of the news cycle, but they're still at the fore of the national psyche. Hurricane Ike has left the TexasGulfCoast choked with debris, and residents face billions of dollars in damages. Trouble the Water just hit theaters nationwide, reopening the wound of Katrina (as though it had ever been sutured in the first place). With all this in mind, GirlStock has planned a special edition of its annual Art & Music Festival to raise money for hurricane victims in New Orleans and the GulfCoast. Billed as "Mardi Gras in October," the event will feature drag king and queen performances, spoken word, refreshments, and music by singer-songwriters Daniel Owens, Theresa Perez, Jolie, and Richie. Sunday, Oct. 5 at the White Horse Inn (6551 Telegraph Ave., Oakland). 6 p.m., $3-$30.
