Ghost Town feels like about a dozen other comedies about people who, often unwillingly, can speak to ghosts. In this case, that guy is Ricky Gervais, co-creator and star of the original The Office and its follow-up Extras. He takes writer-director David Koepp’s surprisingly well-written, but altogether familiar script and elevates it with his stammering, douche-bag-with-a-heart mannerisms. Greg Kinnear backs him up as the movie’s primary specter, a lecherous man, er ghost, who needs Gervais’ dentist-turned-medium to help him break up his widow’s impending marriage. Guess who falls in love with the widow? It’s all frothy, albeit irrelevant fun worth checking out for any of Gervais’ fans (102 min.).
