Get Screened Oakland's 2010 HIV Prevention Campaign Kick-Off

When: Tue., June 1, 10-11 a.m. 2010
Price: free

AIDS prevention is a labor of love, but it is, indeed, a labor. A couple weeks ago, local outreach workers earned major props on Facebook for passing out 200 condoms and lube packets outside Drake's concert at the Warfield Theater. "Thanks," wrote AIDS Healthcare Foundation worker (and local recording artist) JubaKalamka. "Though I suspect Drake is probably not as appreciative of our efforts." In Oakland, we welcome free contraceptives of any kind -- if only because the rate of infection here is seven times higher than in other parts of Alameda County, according to Get Screened Oakland. This Tuesday, June 1, Get Screened hosts its 2010kick-off at Plaza de la Fuente (International Blvd. between 34th and 35th sts.). The event features music, food, and resources, plus appearances by Mayor Ron Dellums and the Golden State Warrior Girls. 10-11 a.m., free. 510-238-7070 or
