Geoff Dyer isn’t exactly the kind of person you’d like to be stuck on a ship with for two weeks — the British author is admittedly fussy, notably irritable, and not even particularly fond of the sea. Which, weirdly enough, makes him the perfect person to write about being stuck on a ship — in this case, the USS George HW Bush, an aircraft carrier situated off the coast of Bahrain. Another Great Day At Sea — one can assume the title is meant to be sarcastic — is bitterly funny and completely singular, like the book-length sequel to David Foster Wallace’s “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again” as filtered through one of the brightest critical minds working today. He’ll read from it this week at Diesel (5433 College Ave., Oakland); don’t miss it.
