Generalissimo with Moggs

When: Thu., March 29, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

Even though Moggs hasn't been particularly prolific -- it only released one song in the last two years, and its show schedule has been just as sparse -- the Petaluma duo still ranks as one of my favorite local bands. Its 2005 debut, The White Belt Is Not Enough (remember those?) hit my consciousness and never left: it's a seductive mix of dreamy noise-rock and post-punk, stripped down and distorted, recorded in what sounds like a huge room, with ragged guitar and equally ragged drumming in the vein of Autolux and Unwound (and not just because those groups all have female drummers, but maybe). The band is apparently going on more than fifteen years together, and this gig has already been canceled once before, so make sure to catch Justin "Sir Plus" and drummer Cara "Miss Minor" at El Rio (3158 Mission St., San Francisco) on Thursday, Mar. 29, with Generalissimo and Minot. Hopefully another two years won't go by before it happens again. 8 p.m., $5.
